Alder Creek Mill Demolition

Location: Portland, Oregon
Client: Property Redevelopment Firm
Contract Value: $250,367

The purpose of this project was to demolish, salvage, recycle and/or dispose of an existing decommissioned industrial lumber mill in Portland, Oregon. AEC demolished the mill in its entirety which consisted of thirteen (13) steel and wood structures totaling approximately 50,000 sq. ft. We used mechanical demolition methods, primarily Kobelco 350, Cat 320 and Komatsu 210 excavators with bucket and thumb attachments and shears to perform the work.

After submission of the demolition work plan, AEC performed strict demarcation of vegetation and areas requiring protection within the property followed by lock out/tag out procedures. We worked closely with utility locate services to ensure all utilities had been properly identified and disconnected. AEC subcontracted a small amount of asbestos removal that was required on roofs and select electrical items. AEC excavators direct loaded demolition debris from within the footprint into containers for transport to Greenway for sorting. Crews used pulverizers to break and crush concrete slabs and foundations to 3″minus and hauled the concrete to an onsite location adjacent to the work zone.

AEC was able to offset demolition costs with asset salvage and provided the client with a $51,000 scrap credit.
